Originally built in the early 1960’s, the Times Union Performing Arts Center overlooks the peaceful St. Johns River. Renovations to the facility included a 3,000-seat “road show” hall, an 1,800-seat concert hall, and a 600-seat theater. The acoustically superior center creates an intimate relationship between artist and audience, while reflecting the differing aesthetic qualities of each of the verses. The advanced are due to careful isolation of all building systems, its massive enclosure system of 10’-14” thick curved walls, and meticulous attention to all materials, seats, and shapes designed to enhance acoustic quality. Careful attention was also given to the site and lobby redesign to integrate the river with the large river-front entry.
